BTC Public and organisations demand special ministerial post for Rihon Daimary.

Pankaj Nath, Assam, May 11:

The demand from the general public and local organizations of Assam’s Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) to give a special ministerial post to Deputy Chief Executive Member (Deputy CEM), MLA of Assam Assembly 2026 and senior BPF party leader Rihon Daimary has intensified. This claim has been made to strengthen the development, peace and representation of the BTC sector. Local organisations and residents believe that the move will effectively address the issues of Bodoland region. Rihon Daimary is the prominent leader of the BPF, who emerged victorious from the Udalguri Assembly constituency in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections by defeating UPPL leader Dipen Boro by 27,554 votes. Prior to this, as Deputy CM of BTC, he was dedicated to regional peace, infrastructure development and economic progress. Several organisations of BTC unanimously said that the BPF has fully supported the leadership of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma. With Rihan Daimary getting the post of Special Minister, issues like education, health, roads, employment and tribal welfare will be given priority at the Cabinet level. The BTC organisations mentioned that the Assam government has given importance to NDA allies in the past. Citing the example of Charan Boro being made a cabinet minister in 2025, everyone has stressed that Rihon Daimary’s appointment as a special minister will give a new impetus to the prosperity of Bodoland. This demand has been raised for regional balance, inclusive governance and protection of local interests. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma undertook a gradual expansion of the Council of Ministers during 2024-2026, ensuring representation to allies, including the BPF. The BPF’s alliance with the NDA remains a symbol of stability in Assam politics. With the Chief Minister accepting this demand, development projects in BTC will be accelerated, which will provide employment and better facilities to the youth. For this reason, the local organizations and residents are hopeful of the Sarma government for peace and prosperity. Overall, this step will strengthen Assam’s unity, regional progress and inclusive politics, thereby spreading a positive message at the state level.
